Easter 2016

This Easter holiday is approaching fast. Easter sunday this year falls on Sunday, March 27th. In case you wondered as well, Passover this year, is on Friday, April 22nd.

Have you ever wondered being that Easter is the time where we celebrate the death & resurrection of Jesus Christ,  doesn’t it have to be in the week of Passover? I mean Jesus was crucified on the Passover, right?

I know according to the scriptures like Luke 22:1-2,

Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people

as well as in John 19:14-16

And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.

Jesus was crucified during the time of Passover for the Jews.  There are many scriptures that justify and prove this point to be true as you can see.

So why are we celebrating Easter now, nearly one month away from the Passover?

The truth may surprise you, but it is the truth. You remember how the Lord told us not to follow the traditions & philosophy of men in Colossians 2:8.  Or when He said our traditions passed down make the word of God have no effect (Mark 7:13).  What if those scriptures applied to Easter too and you never applied it?

I know that on this day we worship that He died for our sins and conquered death on the 3rd day…but aren’t we suppose to celebrate that everyday of our lives? So that leaves other questions unanswered like:

  • Where did the celebration of Easter start at because there is no record of it being commanded to be celebrated in scripture?
  • Who determined the day if it has nothing to do with Passover?
  • If God has not commanded us in His Word, doesn’t Colossians 2:8 & Mark 7:13 apply?

I know we believe we are being reverent and respectable to the Lord, but is it possible that the celebration of Easter is more a tradition than a commanded observance from the Lord? When The Lord led Israel out of Egypt, to honor the Lord Israel made idols in worship to the Lord, Moses destroyed them. The Lord said “Do Not Worship Me that way”.  Is it possible that Easter is the same as with those idols?

When you get to review the facts things get interesting.

  • Did you know that the reason that the date of Easter has nothing to do with Passover, is because it has everything to do with the cycles of the moon?
  • Did you know witches and pagans celebrate their moon goddess on this same day?
  • What if the Easter eggs had to do with the fertility of the moon goddess?
  • What if the Pagans celebrated this day before Christ was even crucified?

If all of that were true, I’m sure you can admit that you would need to do a lot more research, and gain more clarity before you celebrate this “holy” day again. Well guess what…

It’s all true!!

And what’s more true is you don’t have one bible verse telling you to observe Easter.  Not one verse telling us to set the date around the moon cycle? But instead you do have scripture telling you to stay away from the traditions of men?  Please understand we have a loving, but jealous God. He doesn’t want one day over the other to worship & remember Him. He wants it to be done everyday, all day. That’s why He’s given us His Holy Spirit.

If you have questions about the origins of Easter, please do not celebrate it this year and ask God for more clarity. Just be ready and open for His answers. We know the story of why the tradition of Easter has been given to Christians, but a lot of us know just a little more than that. Most of us know that our parents and their parents celebrated it, and much of the United States celebrates it, even though they’re not believers

Remember Hosea 4:6 and get as much knowledge about the traditions you practice and make sure it comes from God.  Not a tradition “about” God, but made from man. There’s a big difference. And in the state this world is in, it should be something believers actively ask God for more clarity on.

If you’re saying well Christmas is another holiday that fits with this message, you are absolutely correct. To gain more clarity go here, but always pray and ask God for wisdom

  1. Can you please tell me if you will have anymore videos for the rest of the books of the bible?? I really enjoyed listening and “LEARNING” from the History of Religion.

  2. Has anyone ever thought about Good Friday ? Jesus said he would be in the heart of the earth 3 days and 3 nights . Matthew 12:40 . Not sure how he could have been crucified on a Friday !
