Joel Osteen False Teacher
Joel Osteen False Teacher

Is Joel Osteen a False Teacher?

He has the largest protestant “Christian” church in the nation. His church has about 45,000 weekly in attendance.  He’s a televangelist that reaches over 7 million viewers weekly & over 20 million monthly in over 100 countries.   According to Nielsen Media Research, he is the most watched inspirational figure in America.  He is the author of many journals, devotionals, and many #1 best-selling books. He was named by Barbara Walters one of the “10 Most Fascinating People of 2006” and he was selected by the readers of “Church Report Magazine” as the “Most Influential Christian”.  He speaks with many U.S. presidents and influential business leaders of today.  Needless to say, this man has influence.

I mean he always speaks with a smile on his face.  I do not think I have ever heard him sound judgmental, arrogant, or negative.  His message is one of hope and love.  Positivity at its best in the eyes of most that follow him.  So what could be the issue about this man?  How could anyone say a negative word about him, right?

The first thing to understand when reviewing this man is that he labels himself as a Christian pastor.  His church is a protestant Christian church.  So his job according to the Bible is to preach the gospel and bring people to Christ.  He is held under the standard of Titus 1 & 2.  The qualities of elder’s, Bishops, and a sound church.  He is charged to preach sound doctrine.  We must hold all preachers of the gospel accountable to preaching it correctly and/or sound.  So if he is preaching sound doctrine and still achieving the heights of influence that he has achieved, then that is a great thing.  My view then would be, how could I help him? What more support can I give to him because he is doing God’s work very effectively?

The problem is that Mr. Osteen is NOT!  Yes, I said that.  He is NOT!! It can seem quite bold and maybe even judgmental to those who draw opinions without first understanding all points of view. But Mr. Osteen is currently the most deceptive pastor in the Christian church in America, maybe even the world because of his global reach.  He is another example of a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  He is not a “Christian” pastor, but a “New Age” pastor disguising himself under the shade of Christianity.  He deceives anyone listening & following him into believing that they are accepting Christian principles, when they are in fact not Christian, but New Age inspired.  Please read about New Age Religion to understand more about it.

This man speaks of love, hope, and forgiveness.  All things that would resonate with anyone looking to clean up their life and be a better person, even a God-fearing person.  He will stand up before each of his sermons, hold his Bible in his hands and the church chants:

“This is my Bible. I am what it says I am. I have what it says I have. I can do what it says I can do. Today I will be taught the word of God. I boldly confess my mind is alert, my heart is receptive; I’ll never be the same. In Jesus name, God bless you.”

Right after doing this, he totally twists scripture and does not preach what the Bible says about all things, only very certain things.  Mr. Osteen has picked out certain themes centered around love, joy, peace, forgiveness, & success. He has centered his principles of living right around them.  He leaves out many other scriptures and doctrinal points any believer should be aware of. Points like “Not being of this world, God’s coming judgement, the way to life is narrow, be expectant and ready for Jesus’s return” amongst many other doctrinal points that shouldn’t even be debated.

Mr. Osteen talks more in a self-help approach to living.  Taking the fruits of the Spirit, but leaving God out of it.  He does not even teach about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Not teach that the Holy Spirit is what believers should yield to more than themselves.  He teaches people can change on their own, by fixing their view on things and being positive.

I can get into the many points about his self-help doctrine and New Age themes.  I can also make many points about his connections with U.S. Presidents, business leaders, and even Oprah.  But the fact that the whole world receives him,  like pointed out in the article about T.D. Jakes and his false teachings, should illustrate how deceptive & false he is.  Think about it, he has the largest congregation in the nation.  The most influence from any other Christian pastor in the world.  If he was truly preaching the gospel, wouldn’t the world hate him as they hated Christ? Jesus said in John 15:18-19…

“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”  (John 15:18-19)

The world seems to love Mr. Osteen.  But if that is not enough evidence for you, just look at his interview with Oprah below.  Now if you are a believer in salvation only through Jesus Christ, you’d know that is our core belief.  We cannot obtain salvation without belief in Jesus Christ.  When asked by Oprah if he believes there’s only one way, he gives the most deceptive answer anyone could ever give.  To the undiscerning Christian, they would receive his answer and not question it.  But if one just uses a little bit of discernment, along with accountability & scripture, they’d see that they not only need to run away from his teachings, but expose him as this article is attempting to do.

Mr. Osteen said that he believes there is only one way to the one true God.  That way is through a relationship with Jesus.  By itself that answer is fine, but Mr. Osteen did not stop there. He also believes there are many paths to Jesus.  Meaning that who we consider to be Jesus can be the same as who Muslims, Jews, or Buddhist believe to be their Jesus. They just call him different names. This is total blasphemy.  He said he wasn’t comfortable making that decision of who is saved or not.   And that that was not his job to judge this.  And that is correct, it is not his job to judge who is saved or not.  But it is his job as the largest “Christian” pastor in the nation to tell them the only way they can be saved and emphasize only through Jesus Christ, being born again through the Holy Spirit.

When he speaks of “who we call Jesus”, he’s not referring to translation.  He’s talking about figures such as Mohammed, Buddha, Krishna, or the like.  He is talking about paganism.  The same gods but with different names depending on where you are from.  It’s quite deceptive.

Either way he should know the danger of a statement like that.  Also knowing how much Oprah spreads New Age doctrine, if he were really about spreading the gospel, it should be a priority to precisely state his belief without room for misinterpretation.  I have never heard a true “Christian” pastor explain salvation this way.  Furthermore, there is nothing like this in the bible that supports his claim.  Remember, he starts his sermons with the fact that the Bible is the leading authority. What scripture is Mr. Osteen referring to that speaks on “different paths to Jesus”?

A book can be written discussing all of his false teachings and more information will later be shared, but the take away of this article should be…

Remove yourself from his teachings, do not spread his quotes or tweets, do not read his books, and remove yourself from his church.  Read the bible for yourself and match his views up with scripture.  If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you spirit has been born again and indwelt with the Holy Spirit.  This is your comforter and guider.  The Holy Spirit will protect you and keep you in line with God, as long as you yield to it.  Beware of false teachers like Mr. Osteen, that do not teach you the best gift the Lord has given us after the redemption of sin through the blood of Jesus.  That gift is the Holy Spirit.

Be aware of New Age teachings.  Please review the New Age Buzz words so you may be able to identify with some of its themes.  It’s quite deceptive and can sound like Christianity if you just respond to someone saying Jesus or god in their statements.  The devil is using these high-profile preachers to sway you away from the truth and have you accept the lie.  Please do not fall for it. They are truly wolves in sheep’s clothing.

If you are awake to Mr. Osteen’s false teachings & New Age doctrine, please comment below for all readers who may not know or understand.  If you are unsure or are in defense of Mr. Osteen, please comment why as well.  Whatever your opinion is, please give it respectfully and in love.  God bless!

  1. I used to follow him until just a few months ago when I read an article that stated he doesn’t mention Jesus name in his sermons. I never noticed that..since all his sayings were of positive note and uplifting. So I went back to research him and yes it’s true. So I stopped listening to him. Then I seen in the news recently, his home and all the land that surrounds it..and I was like he’s not living humbly. So yes I knew about him. I will share it incase someone out there hasn’t read this yet. Thank you for posting this.
GODs you and your family. Now I have a question: is T.D. Jake’s a false teacher too?? I’ve heard rumors but haven’t found anything on him. If you have any information it would be appreciated. Thank you again.

    • I watched the Joel Osteen interview twice. I do not hear him say that the “Different paths to Jesus” were Jesus being called by different names, or that Jesus can be the same as who Muslims, Jews, or Buddhist believe to be their Jesus. He may have been alluding to different denominations can have the same path to Jesus. The interview did not say that at all. He admitted begrudgingly that indeed “Homosexuality” by bible definition is a sin. Then he chimes in, “But I am for everyone”. He does talking about people growing in their own power. He does not acknowledge the Holy Spirit as catalyst of regeneration in the lives of Christians.

  2. I totally agree, I stopped watching him a few years ago
for the exact same reasons mentioned in this article.
Thank you for sharing this, as I have felt so alone with
my opinion of him and many other so called Christian preachers
on TV as well as in some local churches. It’s all in the bible
so I am not surprised. Thanks again

  3. He just like Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggart, Rex Humbart, Paul Crouch and Robert Schuller (Whose Crystal Cathedral was sold to the Catholic Church for conversion to a Catholic Catheral eventually.

    • What’s this? I’ve seen and watched Jimmy Swaggert since I was a kid and in my opinion he seems to be about the only one still preaching about Jesus and Christ’s return.

Joel Osteen is a great man of God and reaching and teaching way more people then we ever will!
When he said “I believe you can come to Jesus different ways”
He did not say ANYTHING about Islam or buhdisim or anything else for that matter. What get ment was exactly what he said, how I found Jesus wasn’t the way you found Jesus.
I am a FIRM believer in hell fire and brimstone preaching but! That is not his method. Peter didn’t preach like Paul, Jesus didn’t preach like Timothy, I’m gonna say be not deceived. Thus is another way the devil throws division between Christians

    • Great answer! I agree. I can see the Father’s love, tenderness and compassion in him. God doesn’t want anyone to perish, but all come to repentance. Its the goodness of God that leads men to repentance. Strong meat is to those that can chew it. Perhaps his call is as a nuremaid…to feed the babes milk!! As we mature in the faith we have different teachers, as Paul said, until we mature enough in faith the Holy Spirit leads us. By revelation we need to ask God to teach us His mysteries.

    • I’m sorry you feel this way, but the content in my article is not false, but scripturally inspired. It is all backed up by the Word of God. If you have scriptural evidence of the latter, please speak it. What he said about many paths, he’s said in many interviews not just this one. If you know that statement to be true, can you point it out to me in scripture. There is only one way to salvation and that’s through Jesus Christ and there is only one path and that path is narrow. Please explain in love the contrary . Also please note I’m doing as I’ve been called to do…Please read Romans 16:17-18 it says “17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. 18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus[a] Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.” God bless you!

    • I totally agree with you. This is so so sickening. I have heard him preach for years and if anyone is twisting anything it is the author of this article.

      • You folks better off for Mr Osteen… Please, read your Bible and see what it says… The Bible itself tells us not to take any, any man’s word. It says we are to read our Bibles to verify what we’ve been told. On judgement day, Jesus will ask if you read and studied His Word. And he already knows the answer.

  5. I had listened to a couple of Mr. Osteen’s sermons and it was alright at first until I continued to listened to them. His “preaching” started to bother me because it was all about everything people wanted to hear like success and blessings. All those things are fine but I never heard him preach about in-depth things, like being ready for when God returns, being aware of false prophets and teachings, the signs of the end, or Christian persecution. I agree, Mr. Osteen does try to make people believe that they can just change on their own. He even makes Christianity sound like it’s a walk in the park and if that were true, everyone would be following that path. This article makes a lot of sense. I truly believe he is selling something that has nothing to do with true Christianity.

      • I have read this article and I enjoy the merit and the spirit of which it is written. I think the author took some words out of context to illustrate his counterpoint, but I am not sure it is mean spirited. I agree Jesus is the way, the truth and the light and the only way to the Father. I have been greatly dismayed at this watered down Christianity we are experiencing. Many are professing to be “spiritual” and not religious, as if being religious is a pejorative word. Our churches are emptying as people choose to spend God’s day in other endeavors while being “spiritual.” I do not judge mankind, I am here to help in my own way, with the gifts given to me by the Holy Spirit. I always look to Billy Graham as a leader of Christians, not corrupted with excessive wealth or false promises of a richly rewarded Christian life. I have no friends because I choose the Word over humanity, such is my lot in my walk with Jesus, I am lonely, but blessed to carry this burden. Christians need to be bold and stop accepting as the world accepts, stop judging, and teach the Word, love, repentance and mercy.

  6. He said Jesus is the only way to God, but there could be many paths to Jesus. I didn’t meet Jesus the way the Apostle Paul did! There are many ways to meet Jesus, to someone in need of healing He shows Himself as healer. Deliverer, etc only by the Spirit of God can one say,

    • we all came to christ at different time different situation my fellow brethens everyone is pointing finger but do not be decieved let god be true and everyman a liar stop listening to men for the devil is the accuser of the brethen when in doubt seek god he always listens and he is faithfull to deliver joel td me u at the end of the day we all have to answer to the one truegod so dont not carry any burdens of anyones truth or untruth and hinder gods plan for your life stay focus keep your eyes on jesus

  7. we all came to christ at different time different situation my fellow brethens everyone is pointing finger but do not be decieved let god be true and everyman a liar stop listening to men for the devil is the accuser of the brethen when in doubt seek god he always listens and he is faithfull to deliver joel td me u at the end of the day we all have to answer to the one truegod so dont not carry any burdens of anyones truth or untruth and hinder gods plan for your life stay focus keep your eyes on jesus

    • Janie please know that this view is not biblically sound. The Lord told us to beware of false prophets and teachers. How can we do this if we do not discern biblically what is sound or not?

  8. The clip of his conversation with Oprah contains nothing objectionable. Your comments after the clip are a total fabrication. You someone know the thoughts and motives of this man? He said many paths lead to Jesus but he never specified what those paths were. You took it upon yourself to assign things to that statement. Newsflash; many paths lead to Jesus! It’s true. He then said only Jesus leads to God. Also true.

This article is full of twisted references and alludes to things that are not proven.

Satan had been counterfeiting God since the beginning. Perhaps Osteen is not copying the “new age” teaching and it’s actually the other way around.

    • When you say many paths lead to Jesus, what scripture are you referring to? Where does it say that in the Word of God. He’s not speaking of a testimony. He’s speaking of different paths that others that don’t believe in Jesus are on. He’s said this in numerous interviews.

      • My path to Jesus was through a letter found in my grandma’s bible. My husband’s path was through the Catholic Church and eventual conversion. I know many people who have come from many paths. Again, you allude to other interviews but provide no proof. The interview you showed doesn’t prove anything

I’m not an Osteen fan. He’s a milk teacher. But, I’m a fan of Jesus. He wanted us to work in unity. He never instructed the body of Christ to shoot at its own members. If Joel is committing a sin that would endanger his salvation then there is a biblical principal that you should follow. Have you done that? I doubt it. Public flogging isn’t scriptural.

Point out false teachings but be careful about how you talk about the teachers. . Have you done that here? No. You allude to things but there’s no contextual proof of your claims.

        • The only way to enter a relationship with Christ is through repentance and faith in Him. There is no other way. When he says many paths to Christ he wasnt talking about various backgrounds/all sinners. Youre giving him waaay too much credit.

Now, here’s how you can definitively know that Joel Osteen (or any person) is a fasle teacher:
if one does not preach about the wages of sin being death, they cannot preach about the Redeemer who gives eternal life and, of course, they would never touch on how we can come to God or enter into a relationship with His Son Jesus b/c, again, one would have to mention sin and repentance in order to do that.

This is why Joel doesnt talk about Jesus. Its because he cannot talk about Jesus without talking about the wages of sin. Also, talking about sins consequences invites the Holy Spirit in to convict and prick hearts and have people who will either respond correctly to Gods invitation and come to trust in the Lord and be saved OR reject Christs offer and harden their hearts and avoid church and stop giving tithes.

Joel doesnt want them to stop giving tithes so he preaches pleasant biblical concepts tiptoeing in circles all around Jesus Christ, the cross, repentance, and salvation- The Gospel. This takes skill and rehersal to prepare countless sermons, interviews, and even books forgoing the gospel. The bottom line is he is very handsome and charming but uses his gifts and talents God gave Him to be a con artist and charm snake, a wolf in sheeps clothing. According to scripture, false prophets’ motivation is $$$, pride.

          • …and lied and said there are many paths to Jesus. The bible says the way is narrow and few will enter in. Few will repent and put all their trust in Jesus Christ. Most people are not willing to give up/turn from self, idols, gods, and godless lifestyles. Your beloved Pastor Joel is familiar with these scriptures and their spiritual implications already which is why he chooses to skip then entirely.
He would rather keep his church packed full of hungry lost souls devouring his next best $elling book$. Thats all I have to share about Joel and the falsehood he represents. You have a wonderful day.

  9. For those who dont understand, there are not many paths to Jesus! The gospel includes not only Jesus Christ being the only way to God and eternal life but also that we enter this relationship with Him one way and thats that we repent and turn to faith in Him. He says we must deny ourselves, pick up our crosses, and come after Him.

Does that sound like many paths to Jesus? If any man is preaching about salvation and forgoes repentance/self-denial/abandoning other faiths, gods, idols and man submitting himself to Jesus the Lord, they are not preaching the true gospel.

Unfortunately, you wont hear any of that coming from Joel Osteen. He is simply a smiling, charming motivational speaker with rich and powerful friends in the world he seeks approval and status and fame from. Oprah endorses Joel’s books so he’s not going to rebuke her false gods and theology. He instead shares a stage with her where they talk about “God” and blessings and prosperity and other biblical sounding concepts but leave the audience empty and bankrupt b/c they never mention Jesus Christ, redemption, salvation.

  10. This article is SPOT ON and one of the best that I have read on the subject of Joel Osteen. He is definitely a Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing. He brings a “different” False Gospel therefore he is NOT the Brethren. I could also fill a book with the way that he twists scripture “to appear” that he is preaching God’s word. He has been politely called out many times by many upstanding preachers and He absolutely refuses to repent or apologize instead he mocks or demonizes the ones who bring forth the truth but he certainly makes sure to change up his wording a bit so as to continue to deceive. He fully knows that what he is doing is wrong which is why he has changed up his wording lately so as to become more sly, cunning and a little harder to detect by the watching world as those who are bold for Christ and his true word are calling him out. And yes it is truly DANGEROUS to have anything to do with him. He is brainwashing his followers into “believing a lie”. And he will very soon be leading his blind followers straight to the One World Religion and the Mark of the Beast. Why would a true Christian want anything to do with that? You cannot mix true light with darkness.

  11. Joel is a wonderful speaker of our Lord! Yes, he smiles constantly which makes most people smile back which is a good thing!when finished listening to him ,you always feel better than when u first turned the Tv on. He knows his bible and you can find your way to Jesus, thru Joel osteen!!!

  12. When I hear people say beware of False Teachers, and Wolves in Sheeps clothing, its odd they ONLY point Pastors who LOOK to have achived some type of financail or commercial sucess. Hmmm? They never pick on Pastor Pete with 13 members in his basement. And if a Pastor or Teacher focuses on the positive ways to live your life, they are branded “new age”. So if a Pastor teaches and Preaches HELL AND BRIMSTONE every sermon. And are only telling people the things that send you to hell and are they not doing the same thing? I heard of hundreds of sermons on Hell and how so many of my thoughts, actions, and words are going to send me there. If thats all Preacher preaches, he or she also has taught an unbalanced gospel and they are not telling the whole story.

    • Who said that Mr. Osteen should preach hell and brimstone every Sunday? No one said that. Pastors are supposed to preach on a variety of biblical subjects to nurture his congregation spirit and help them grow closer to God. A pastor’s job is not suppose to keep telling people what they want to hear every Sunday, but he is suppose to let the Holy Spirit lead him about what to say to his congregation. There is suppose to be a balance in the pulpit.

      • A pastor is not supposed to preach a sermon every Sunday to a congregation. In the New Testament the Believers edified one another: each member contributing as the Lord laid a message, prophecy, song in their hearts. In this way false preachers were automatically detected (See Ephesians 4).Saying that pastor Osteen should preach a better message, would be expecting too much from one man. This is not what should be.

        • There is only one true Teacher:

John 14:26 King James Version (KJV)
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 16:13-15 King James Version (KJV)
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
1 John 2:27 King James Version (KJV)
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

        • You’ve might have missed the point. Joel Osteen should preach the truth, not just a better message. It’s not about preaching fire and brimstone, but it should be understood that “The fear of YHWH is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
          ‭‭Mishlĕ (Proverbs)‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭TS2009‬‬
He’s not even giving the basics. The beginning of knowledge. But away from that He preaches another Jesus. One that wants you to live some great life filled with money and success, and that is not true. You’ve missed the point of this writing

  13. The final command our Lord Jesus Christ had given to his disciples was expressly stated in Mark 16:15-16 thus says, “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

It is only the Gospel that shall be preached “…because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes….”(Rom.1:16) yes it is “By this gospel we are saved, if we hold firmly to the word (Paul) preached to us. Otherwise, we have believed in vain.” (1Cor.15:2)

Paul further expressed about the Gospel in verses 3 & 4 which says, “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ DIED for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was BURIED, that he was RAISED on the third day according to the Scriptures,”

Here, it is clear what is very important to preach which Paul had passed on to others, it is the DEATH, BURIAL & RESURRECTION of our Lord Jesus Christ.

There is no other Gospel that shall be preached otherwise be condemned.(Galatians 1:8-9)

We are only saved through faith in Jesus and obedience of the Gospel as expressed in Acts 2:38.

  14. Pastor Joel is a good man! Stop all the judgement and bashing. Only God can judge him. Get the beams out of your own eyes.

  15. It saddens me that people take it upon themselves to bash fellow brothers in Christ! Joel Osteen is a “born again” son of God! I do not believe that those who are critizing him has ever really listen to his sermons! Thank you Joel Osteen for walking in the Ministry that God has called you into!

  16. Seems that this article may be written by someone either jealous of Mr. O’s success or someone working for the enemy to lead Christisns away from God. Shame on you either way.

  17. Every Ministry is different in many ways. Pointing the way to Jesus Our Saviour and Lord through His Word is what counts. The Osteens do a wonderful work for the Lord, and to speak negative of their work, you should examine your own heart. Always uplift your Brothers and Sisters in the Lord. Don’t give the enemy any room, be accountable for your own heart.

  18. I had only watched Joel Osteen a few times, when I bought one if his books. I read 2 Chapters of it and put it down. Joel Osteen is not a Christian Pastir. He I’d a good motivational speaker. He never speaks of sin, or needing to be saved. There is a heaven and there is a hell. He will be held accountable for every person he leads astray. His Father was an awesome Minister. I watched him quite often.

  19. You know you are about up teenth time someone has put Joel Osteen under the bus . You need to watch the very end of each of his services he gives people a chance to find Jesus now Charles you say what you want he is a man of God whether you believe it or not. He preaches the word of God like any other preacher. He opens up the word and God uses him . What you need to do is stop running this man of God , If you feel like he’s not doing what then pray for him. He has a great music worship leader don’t you think if thought he was a false prophet would have been gone by know. He probably has one of the greatest churches in the world you are really wasting your time . You are probably the 4 person that has gone through this rediculous choice of words you chosen to come up with Why don’t you get on the same-sex marriage or any other topic besides this one

  20. As for the comment that there may be many ways to Jesus Christ, does the Bible not say, quoting Jesus Himself, that it is only the Spirit of God who will dray mankind to Jesus?

  21. I listened to the interview w/Oprah and did not hear any false statements from Mr. Osteen. He said the way to salvation was through JC, a relationship with JC. This is true. He said there are many ways JC can reveal himself and uses various vessels and this too is true. Yes the path is narrow, nevertheless, the path can come in many forms, as with the LORD, HE can call our attention however HE Deems. Are we just willing to accept, understand, see, be receptive, however, HE chooses to touch our hearts, change our hearts. I heard nothing inaccurate from this interview. As for you putting words which Joes did not say such as Muslims, jews, etc… this was your writing, not at all what Joel stated. I listened to the interview a few times and he said nothing out of line nor none scripturally sound. You seem to be attacking and this is not good. From your writing I get judgement and this is not good either. We are not to judge. Rather pray, love and always hope and have faith in HIS almighty power! I will pray for you, you pray for me and let’s pray for Joel and for all in the world. Let’s pray for unity and to keep spreading the good news, not judge, not cause separation, rather unity in HIS love. Peace/love/hope/faith to you and all of us.

  22. Plz dont focus on person focus on God and dont judge people.people are people and they are weeknees so dont follow them follow God.

  23. John 7:16-18 NIV
[16] Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. [17] Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. [18] Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

Do you want to know if Mr. Osteen’s teaching comes from God or not? Do the will of God.
How do you do the will of God? Study the Bible. Study Jesus’s life on earth and His words then obey His commands. Pray and ask God for the truth, if you are really seeking for the truth you will find it. God bless.

  24. John 10:2-5 NIV
[2] The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. [3] The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. [4] When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. [5] But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

  25. I believe the same about gods leave him alone he is good ppl means no harm to you why do you wanna harm him

    • Rachel, first of all there is only one God. If Mr. Osteen with his influence is leading people astray by not teaching them the truth then he is harmful, but as Jesus says in Matthew 15:14 NIV
[14] Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

  26. a ‘gospel’ that causes a focus on this present life/world and life in it….?, well what is that.
vs, luke 24:47 for a start, preach repentance and remission of sins in Christ, or John 16:8..He will convict the world of sin righteousness and judgement…sin righteousness and ..judgement?
yep. There is no condemnation to those in Christ romans 8:1 and in Christ we’re not appointed to wrath…but what about those not in Christ? So the gospel that’s bent towards this present life and excludes the whole council of God including judgement for sin and unbelief is terrible for those who are not in Christ as they may never come to Christ in truth then to be born again to escape the wrath of God since by nature and without Christ all are by nature children of wrath (ephesians 2:3), also matthew 3:7, hebrews 6:18, ezekiel 33, romans chapter 1 leading into chapter 2:5..the wrath of God is very real, ought not people to be warned? Along with many more verses and is why a person must be born again.
And for those that say-oh that’s the Holy Spirit’s job to convict, yes He convicts, but akin to faith comes by hearing and hearing by the world and how shall they hear if one doesn’t speak and back to luke 24…what ought we to preach/speak? A gospel that causes a focus on this present life as the all in all or one that causes a focus on Christ and things above?

Many churches have a gospel that sets the mind upon this present away from them.
A watered down feel good only gospel is just that, not the whole word and council of God, why not have the best, flee to Christ abide and receive Him and the word engrafted which is able to save your soul.

    • A minister has a responsibility to speak the entire truth, an explanation of how to accept Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, to receive His forgiveness to our hearts and lives, through the precious blood of Jesus shed on Calvary and then how to change their living from a walking in sin to living for Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit -to a life that is pleasing to God. There is a noticeable change in one’s life when Jesus is invited to live in one’s heart: the change is because the personhood of Christ now actually lives in you and directs your life. As you pointed out, sj, in your above statement, in Romans, Paul tells us that people are warned of God’s wrath (which is real) and “how will they know unless they hear and hearing comes by the Word of God,” which is the Bible. There is a heaven and there is a hell. Heaven is gained not simply by having a relationship with God but by going through the process of making God’s Son, Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior of your life -and praying each day that you will be faithful to your commitment through the power of God’s Holy Spirit.

  27. I agree with this article. I have listened to Mr. & Mrs. Osteen frequently & read several of his books & find so many of their statements are not based on scripture. I was especially taken aback several months ago when I heard that Mrs. Osteen had stated that we should do what makes us feel good as that was most important. We are not suppose to be self oriented but be humble, self sacrificing & serve as Jesus did. God, Christ & others should be served before self. We are to live continuously on mission to bring others to Christ, the ONLY way to God & heaven.

  28. Yeah I know he is a false teacher and I told my parents awhile back but they don’t believe me they think I’m crazy cause I wanted to tell them about many false teachers like Joseph Prince, Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagan, T.D. Jakes, Creflo Dollar, Paula White, Joyce Myer, Rick Warren etc but of course they aren’t buying it and satanic influence from entertainment etc… but lol apparently I’m crazy but I know I’m not so I haven’t said much to them about it since.

  29. Not an Osteen fan..Never heard of his teaching ever..But from the Oprah interview itself, I see nothing wrong..All I know is that the only path to God is Jesus..and that path is narrow and difficult..For me, that narrow road is Jesus..I will never listen to any of his teaching, not because you said so, but because i know i will only be saved by Jesus..

  30. God bless you for this, i mean i use to listen to him before but reading this article as made me see him in a new light, he as never preached from revelations or even speak about hell fire or end time. We need to be really alert

  31. He’s redundant and a bit of a televised chuckle, but Mr. Teary Inspiration has some points that can help some get back on the right positive and objective course. I prefer to reckon his general self improvement messages as opposed to evangelism, which he is not. The wife is very fake, and too loud for much internal absorption…gratingly not believeable- I click right out of it. LOL, “‘…I have what it says I can do-” and nothing more? But let’s not be judgemental.

  32. I would encourage you all, before you accept these types of articles as truth, to take the time to explore and research for yourself. Because in a number of the YouTube videos that accused him, he is clearly stating his faith in Jesus, but the title states something totally different. But without research people accept deception. Here are two of a number of sermons with him teaching on the Blood of Christ. [ ] or [ ] Isn’t this the same way they attacked Christ. Accused him of not representing God? They also accused James for writing a epistle of hope and practical living for believers. They called it the “Straw” Epistle because he did not use Jesus name as often as others. It is sad that this site needs this type of propaganda to attract readers. Its not necessary. For those of you who don’t understand. Joel is graced with the Ministry of Hope in a world where people sit up in churches totally confused and lost about who they are in God. He is graced to reach that group who need a more practical approach. Whats wrong with that. Jesus used parables to make sure people understood spiritual matters.

    • Undeceived believer my suggestion to you would maybe be fore you to go back and read the Word of God. There’s is not about what Joel Osteen preaches that makes his doctrine true and though I’m sure he does bring up Jesus he is highly deceptive. If you think that is the true gospel, there’s not much to say than you just need to study more and remove yourself from these false teachers. But I feel confident on what I’ve said and how I’ve been led to expose deception. Thank you for your comment. If I knew your name I’d pray for you

    • I believe he outright blasphemes when he talks about homosexuality. He says that God does not classify sins and that he believes that gays will not be prevented from entering heaven but 1 Corinthians 6:9 specifically states otherwise

  33. One thing that I’ve notice that he kept saying in this interview is “I think” and “I believe”. which means he was responding to the questions with his flesh. He also was worried bout offending people with the truth in God’s Word.

  34. Here is a simple test of all prosperity preaching…of which Mr. Osteen is a member of….take any of his (sermons) or his books and see how they play out in a 3rd. World country. Jesus is the SAVIOR… ask yourself…savior of what ???? Answer: the judgement of A righteous God. Failing to tell people to repent and seek the savior is knowingly teach a false gospel. If I were judging me. Osteen I would say something like…He is going to help. That would be judging him. But the bible is clear that calling a wolf a wolf is what we are suppose to do. He diminishes the cross of Christ by not telling his followers what nailed Christ to it. Any one supporting him likes having their ears tickled. Recently I thumbed thru 5 of his books in a Florida airport and not 1 title of 1 chapter mentions Jesus. Bottom line is this…Christ and Christ crucified…nothing and I mean nothing else matters…. now or when we all stand before the judgment seat.

    • Praise God Almighty for brothers like you who glorify the master, our Lord Jesus who hung on that horrible piece of wood for 6 hours in agony. Now I’m weeping like I always am, glory and hnour and praises the the Lamb who was slain,
Isaiah 6:1-10 King James Version (KJV)
6 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.

6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

  35. You just ruined my reading of your pages by giving a subjective judgment of someone else by splitting his words. Joel teaches in a different way than others. Jesus came to give us hope and Joel uses scripture and calls the name of Jesus from his beginning to the end. Please rescind this unsubstantiated judgement of yours so we can keep learning both from you and Joel. Just because more people heard him it doesn’t make him against Jesus. You probably have a lot of readers to and if you stop judging others may get more readers hopefully and no body coming to say you are with the devil because you have many followers!

  36. Glory be to God!!! I am thankful that there are people out the teaching correctly and exposing those who do not, especially considering the current state of world.

I believe that Mr. Osteen is a false teacher. Oprah herself exposes him with a single question about homosexuality. 1 Cor 6:9 is of the opposite position as Mr. Osteen but 1 Corinthians isn’t attempting to sell tickets either.

If he truly were teaching the message of Jesus and walking in Jesus’ path he would truly be despised by the masses or majority of people. Mr Osteen is very wealthy. Jesus said it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a wealthy man to enter into heaven.

    • It’s sad to see Christians bearing false witness with a strawman argument.I heard Osteen say in this clip:
      1. There is one way to God, Jesus
      2. There are many ways to find Jesus.
      3. Homosexuality is a sin.

There are many concerning things about Joel Osteen’s teaching and you need to test it carefully (as with any teacher), but nothing wrong with what he said in this clip. In fact I was pleasantly surprised to hear Osteen call out homosexuality as a sin so clearly; made me reconsider my assumptions, and consider that he actually does sit under the authority of the Word.

  37. I have for at least 3 decades concluded that if a preacher is on TV I need to put on the FULL armor of God before entertaining ANYTHING they say. TV = Money, Money = Trouble!

  38. I have read everything everyone has committed on both in the article & on Mr.Olstin. I believe there are different experiences that people go through in their lives & The Holy Spirit leads some of us to Christ through them. Does Mr. Olstin believe in The Holy Spirit & the conviction of sin that He gives us to repent of our sins & give our lives to Christ? I have never listened to him long enough to know if he believes in the repentance of sin & believing on Christ Jesus for forgiveness through The Holy Spirit. I get where some of the commenters think that u are judging Mr. Olstin because u put ur words ( what u thought he meant) in Mr. Olstins mouth when u said he meant that Buddha or Mohammed can lead them to Christ. He didn’t say that, but he didn’t say anything about The Holy Spirit, the conviction of our sins or the repentance (turn from) our sins either. So if he doesn’t preach that which God’s Word says we need to do, be born again, made new, then how could he be sent from God?

  39. I always there there was something a little off with his teaching. Thank you Father for insight and clarity. There are soo many changes needed in My Christian walk.

  40. All sins are not equal. Some are worse than others.

I give him a little credit for stating the Biblical truth that homosexuality is sin but he just barely did that. It was like watching a scared dog being drug on a leash, and he was eager to throw people in the same boat as homosexuals. Who is he to judge us?
